This is a plein air painting done during a weeklong trip in mid-June 2018 to the Adirondacks for the Publisher's Invitational, the brainchild of Eric Rhoads, the mover & shaker behind the plein air painting movement. About 80 dedicated artists paint on location every day for a week in New York, enjoy each other's company, make new friends and renew old acquaintances.
The subject is a lake at a nature preserve known as The VIC, at Paul Smith College in New York's Adirondack Mountains. It was a beautiful day with low humidity and mild temperatures, an absolutely delightful day to paint in the open air. The challenge of plein air is to observe, plan and execute a painting sufficiently quickly to complete it before the sun has moved enough to significantly alter what you originally saw. It was a very enjoyable exercise in the company of others who share the same passion.
